“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”
– Helen Keller –
Randy and Ashley’s second door to happiness opened soon after their first doors closed. They met in an online divorce support group at a time when both could still feel the aftershocks of their first doors closing in their lives. Fortunately, they were able to catch a glimpse of another door opening in each other. Their conversations expanded from the initial topics such as the proper filing of divorce paperwork into other realms, like religion, unemployment and even dating.
Randy converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, of which Ashley is a member, shortly after meeting her. After a short excursion to Reno in which Randy and Ashley enjoyed sights such as Lake Tahoe, Randy relocated to Reno to accept a job opportunity after a dry spell in Texas. In Reno, the couple have made a blessed life together.
On July 17, 2010, Randy asked Ashley’s hand in marriage at a family and friend BBQ for his birthday. Well, to be quite honest, he asked Rebecca (Ashley’s mom), John (Ashley’s dad) and James (Ashley’s brother) and informed Leslie and Darren before he asked her. The only two people surprised were Ashley and Grant (who would have been told, but who arrived late). Despite hijacking a birthday party Ashley threw for him and making her turn an inhuman shade of red in front of everyone, Ashley said yes when Randy asked her for her hand in marriage.
